For those keeping up(even in a small way), to the probable candidates for the 2008 Election, references to "global warming" is a bold and persuasive topic. Supposed primary causes for this global warming epidemic stems from CO2 emissions from factories and vehicles; which from a scientists perspective, makes me ponder the composition of the air, the levels of the atmosphere, and other sources that may contribute to global warming. So, I’ll respond to the scare tactics which are broadcasted throughout the media (then, maybe you’ll think differently, who knows?):
Scare Tactic #1: Our temperatures are rising, due to higher CO2 emissions
Response:
Firstly, temperature fluctuations have always occurred, since the beginning times of earth. With CO2 and carbon conversion issues revolved around factory and vehicle emissions, here’s a nice fun set of facts:
*1 volcano eruption => Emits 10 times more CO2 than all the factories and vehicles on earth.
*1 volcano eruption + all decomposing vegetation => Emits 25-30 times more CO2 than all factories an vehicles on earth.
Now, I’m not a huge history buff, but like most people I know post WWII, the US experienced an increase in industrious manufacturing of goods. Post WWII, there were record highs of CO2 emissions, the government hadn’t instituted regulation laws to limit emissions and/or on use of harmful chemicals. Oddly enough, the average temperatures for about 10 to 15 years after this increase went DOWN! That’s right, down, not up. And in 1975, the facts show that CO2 emissions were on an all time low, and for the next 20 years, temperatures have been going up.
Scare Tactic #2: CO2 levels are ever increasing in our breathing air, and soon, we won’t have any fresh air!
Response:
(Please reference response to #1)
Composition of air we breath:
"The major constituents of dry air on Earth are nitrogen molecules (77 percent), oxygen molecules (21 percent) that we breathe, and argon atoms (0.93 percent). Carbon dioxide is a miniscule 0.035 percent. There is no hydrogen in our air, and most of the hydrogen on Earth is found in water. The water vapor in wet air is variable in amount, usually no more than 1 percent (NASA)**."
CO2 only accounts for 0.035 percent of the full composition of the air.....but let us not forget this fun fact:
The only major hole in the earths atmosphere is right above the south pole...mmmm...Factories around there? No. Large about of vehicle traffic? No. Volcano eruptions? YES...sounds like a natural reaction and/or event.
Scare Tactic #3: Glaciers are melting away due to CO2 levels in the air (Glacier ice samples show this); Global warming
Response:
As the above response states, volcanic eruptions do occur at the south pole, emitting large quantities of CO2 in the air, breaking down the ozone layer in that region. Yet, the glaciers are not melting away due to this hole in the ozone, but rather current and temperature fluctuations in the oceans and seas. The majority of this earth is water, and the earth has always experienced changes in temperature and storm changes; all very normal and typical.
While I don’t expect people to listen to me, because a media commentator, who has a communications degree, would undoubtably know more than a Enviro-Chemist; yet, I must release my frustrations and knowledge. Propaganda via the media is always going to be the general public source of information, it’s effortless. Not many people are going to ask a specialist, or read an article published by Scientific American, Myspace.com and Youtube.com will definitely take precedence before further education.

I completely agree with your position on Global Warming. It is truly sad how much influence the media has for the worse.
The icebergs, CO2, layers, like onions and shrek?! LOL!
Damn liberals trying to warp our minds, so we are complete idiots. Shut Al Gore up, for Christ sake!
Bless you, for being intelligent enough to go beyond instant-readily available news from FOX network; yes, this is suppose to be humorous and laughable.:-)
